Harold Septimus Power (1879-1951)
Harold Septimus Power was born in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1878. As a young man he moved to Australia where he studied art and later at the Acad�ie Julian, Paris for two years (1905-07). After study in Paris, he moved to London and served as an official war artist with the AIF during World War 1 specializing in cavalry engagements.
Harold Septimus Power became a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and the Society of Animal Painters. He exhibited widely including the Royal Academy, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, Royal Scottish Academy and Royal Hibernian Academy. His commissioned works included three panels for the stairwell of the Melbourne Public Library in 1924 entitled 'War' and 'The Opening of Federal Parliament House, Canberra by His Royal Highness, Duke of York in 1927.
