John Bellany R.A (1942- )
Born in Port Seton, Scotland. He studied at Edinburgh College of Art from 1960-65 where he won an Andrew Grant scholarship, then at the Royal College of Art from 1965-68. Solo shows include a series at Drian Gallery in the 1970s and the Compass Gallery, Glasgow in 1987 and 1990. Recognised as one of Scotland’s greatest painters he lived in London where he was made a member of the RA in 1991 and was awarded the C.B.E. His works are in some of the world’s premier galleries including the Tate Gallery, the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art, the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum, both in New York.
