Adrian Paul Allinson(1890-1959)

Born and lived in London,he studied medicine but abandoned this for Art, studying at the Slade School of Art in 1910-12, where he was a member of a notable group of students working under Henry Tonks, Philip Wilson Steer and Walter Westley Russell. He won a Slade Scholarship and later studied in Paris and Munich.

Posts included Stage designer to the Beecham Opera company and Art master at the Westminster Technical Institute. He became a member of the London Group in 1914, Royal Society of British Artists in 1933 and Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1936.

He exhibited widely including the Royal Academy, New English Arts Club, R.B.A, Leicester Galleries and the Fine Art Society, which put on a retrospective exhibition in 1984. Galleries in Manchester, Bradford and Rochdale hold his work.
